About Mr. Pacheco

Picture
Allen Pacheco is the Director of Bands and Mariachi at Hoover Middle School. He prioritizes building strong relationships with students and families while helping young musicians develop professionalism and pride in their craft.
Under Mr. Pacheco’s direction, Mariachi Los Halcones, Hoover’s intermediate/advanced mariachi ensemble, participated in the UC Berkeley Mariachi Workshop, where students collaborated with other middle school, high school, and university ensembles, as well as professional mariachi musicians and educators. This experience was a highlight of the school year, inspiring students to grow in their musicianship and love for mariachi music.

Before joining Hoover Middle School, Mr. Pacheco directed Mariachi OroAzul, a student-led mariachi ensemble at San José State University in 2023, and also worked with San Jose Jazz.  Beyond the classroom, Mr. Pacheco is an active Bay Area musician and composer. He leads Pachex, his alternative R&B project that draws influence from R&B music and Reggae influence. His passion for performing and creating continues to shape his teaching, connecting students to the real-world artistry of music.

About Ms. Karely

Karely Ruvalcaba specializes in mariachi music, with her main instruments being violin and voice. She was first introduced to mariachi in elementary school through an after-school program and quickly fell in love with the music. Since then, Karely has performed with several ensembles, including Mariachi San José, the university ensemble; Mariachi OroAzul de San José State University, a student-led group; and Mariachi Garibaldi 2000. She currently performs with an active mariachi group in the area. In addition to performing, Karely serves as the mariachi coach at Hoover Middle School for the beginning and intermediate/advanced classes. She has helped prepare students for many performances, like the UC Berkeley Mariachi Conference. She is proud to take the lead in developing the mariachi program at Trace Elementary School.
