About the VPA Program
Trace Elementary School has been a public visual and performing arts elementary school for over 40 years. Students have opportunities to participate in the arts during the normal school day as well as in before and after school programs.
Currently, opportunities outside of the normal VPA curriculum are offered to students in 3rd-5th grades. |
How do our students participate in the arts during the normal school day?Drama
All students receive instruction in drama classes throughout the year and perform in a grade-level production. In addition, students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to participate in the Early Morning Drama (EMD) program, which produces a play in the fall and a musical in the spring. Music All students participate in music classes throughout the year. Students learn to read music, sing with healthy techniques, and perform pieces from a variety of cultures. Students in grades 3-5 may also elect to participate in before and after school programs. These electives include band, orchestra, and/or choir and provide multiple opportunities to perform during the school year. Visual Arts All students participate in art at Trace. Young artists explore a variety of materials and art-making processes, from drawing and painting to printmaking and weaving. Lessons in the art room are regularly integrated with classroom curriculum concepts. During preparation for grade-level performances, art room experiences are generally tied to the theatrical/musical goals of the upcoming production. |
