What You’ll Learn

Students will dive into the world of musical expression, exploring melodies, rhythm, and harmony as they explore new songs and techniques. With guidance from their band director, they’ll discover how practice and play come together to spark their own creative voice.

Program Structure

Daily classes lead campers through painting, papermaking, and ceramics, with small class sizes that allow for plenty of personal guidance. Artist-educators create a balance of focused skill-building and playful exploration, ensuring each day feels both structured and surprising. At the end of the summer, campers share their creations in a celebratory art show.

A donation of $50 per student per program is requested but not required to participate. Eligibility

All 3rd-5th grade students are eligible to sign up for Band. Rehearsals will start the week of 9/8/25 and will be held in Mr. Henriques's room. If you have any questions regarding the schedule, please contact him at ahenriques@sjusd.org,

Hello! As an alumni of Trace Elementary, I can’t wait to be back on campus and teaching your students all about music! My passion for the arts began at Trace and continued through my time at Hoover and Lincoln High School, where I played several instruments in the band and orchestra and sang in the choir. I graduated from Santa Clara University in 2023 with an undergraduate degree in business, but soon discovered my love and appreciation for teaching through a position at Starting Arts. I am so excited to get to know each student and be a part of this wonderful community here at Trace!
